Where is your office located?
We have two West Michigan locations! Grand Rapids and Hastings
Suite B
Hastings, MI 49058

If I don’t live near you, can we still work together?
Yes! We can meet virtually on my secure telehealth platform.
Can I still do telehealth even if I live locally?
Yes! Many of our clients choose to do a hybrid or combination of telehealth and in-person sessions. We’ll do whatever is best for you and is in the best interest of your therapeutic goals.
What are your hours?
We have therapists who work Monday through Friday, during the morning, afternoon and evenings. Depending on which therapist you are feeling called to, our individual availability varies. Some therapists do have occasional weekend availability as well!
How long is a typical session?
Most of our therapists see clients for 60-minute sessions, but 45-minute and 30-minute sessions are also available depending on your individual need and what issues you are seeking help with. Some of our therapists also offer extended, 90-minute sessions. There is always a 5-7 minute transition time, so a typical 60 minute session will
be at least 53-minutes in length.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards and charge your card on file at each session’s conclusion. That way, you don’t have to worry about forgetting your wallet or paying your invoices later.
If you complete sessions in person, we will also accept cash and/or check, if preferred.
Do you see clients through insurance?
Yes. We currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, Blue Cross Blue Shield Plus Medicare, Priority Health and United Health Care/Optum.
Many other insurance companies may offer reimbursement for out-of-network mental health services.
We encourage you to check with your insurance providers to learn about any available reimbursement options. We are happy to provide you with a weekly or monthly “superbill” for reimbursement for out-of-network benefits.
We also work with auto insurance carriers who may reimburse clients for therapy services. Similarly, if you have access to a health savings account or flex spending account through your employer, you may use this to pay for
services or co-pays in many cases. Doing so would give you additional, tax-free savings on your therapy services.
How do I set up an initial appointment?
We’re so glad you asked! Schedule a free 15 minute consultation below:
What is your cancellation policy?
We have a 48-hour cancellation policy. Clients who cancel less than 48 hours in advance are subject to the appointment’s full fee. If you email, message, or leave a voicemail within this timeframe, we will consider your appointment canceled and there will be no fee.
We are not unreasonable; we understand that life happens. Should you have a true emergency and be unable to cancel before 48 hours, please speak with your therapist about options for waiving the cancellation fee. Some of us will offer one “freebie” or allow “same-week-reschedules” to avoid the late cancellation fee.
Are you experienced working with people of different race, gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, atheist/agnostic, and weight?
Yes! Everyone at Heart in Balance strives to do their best to maintain integrity in serving a diverse client base, including continuing education around cultural competence, anti-racism, body neutrality, and other forms of discrimination that clients may face.
What type of therapy do you do?
At Heart In Balance Holistic Psychotherapy, our clinicians provide integrative, holistic psychotherapy for adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families. Our work is grounded in the understanding
that emotional health is deeply connected to the mind, body, and nervous system.
All of our therapists share a strong interest in the mind–body connection and incorporate somatic and integrative approaches that support healing not only through insight and cognitive understanding (CBT, ACT & Motivational Interviewing), but through the body’s natural capacity to process and resolve stress, trauma, and emotional patterns.
Our therapeutic approach blends traditional psychotherapy with body-aware and mindfulness-based methods to help clients experience meaningful and lasting change. Depending on the clinician and the needs of the client, therapy may
incorporate evidence-based and mindfulness-based modalities such as:
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
- Brainspotting Somatic Experiencing
- Hakomi Somatic Psychotherapy
- Mindfulness-Based Therapies
- Gottman Method Couples Counseling
- Synergetic Play Therapy for children
- Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP)
- Gestalt therapy
- Humanistic and psychodynamic approaches
- Trauma-informed therapy
- Jungian and transpersonal perspectives
Our therapists take a whole-person approach, recognizing that healing often involves addressing emotional experiences, relational patterns, nervous system regulation, and deeper meaning or purpose in life.
By tailoring therapy to each client’s unique needs, we aim to create a supportive space where individuals, couples, and families can develop insight, build resilience, regulate their nervous systems, and move toward greater balance and well-being.
What is the difference between therapy and coaching?
Therapy focuses on the presenting problem and healing from the past. Coaching focuses on what is possible and looks towards the future. Both therapy and coaching have the power to transform and both focus on open and honest communication. Some clients may start their journey with therapy, and later graduate to coaching. Other clients may seek out coaching or work with a therapist and coach simultaneously.

Have you worked with the kind of problem I’m facing?
Our therapists at Heart In Balance Holistic Psychotherapy have experience working with individuals, couples, children, adolescents, and families facing a wide range of life challenges. While each clinician has their own areas of focus, our practice commonly supports clients who are navigating:
- Anxiety and chronic stress
- Depression and mood challenges
- Trauma, PTSD, and traumatic memories
- Relationship and couples issues
- Parenting and family dynamics
- Motherhood and postpartum transitions
- Life transitions and identity changes
- Grief and loss
- Codependency and boundary challenges
- Perfectionism and burnout
- Self-worth and personal growth
- Spiritual or existential questions
Because we are a collaborative group practice, we are often able to match clients with a therapist whose training and approach best fits their needs.
Our work goes beyond simply managing symptoms. Using integrative and somatically informed approaches, we help clients explore the deeper roots of emotional patterns, trauma, and relational dynamics so that healing and lasting change can occur. All of our clinicians incorporate mind–body approaches that support nervous system regulation, emotional processing, and deeper self-awareness, helping clients develop greater resilience, clarity, and balance in their lives.
How often should I come to therapy or meet with my coach?
Healing is a process that unfolds over time, and we’ve found that meeting weekly at the beginning often provides the strongest foundation for meaningful change. For many clients, weekly sessions during the first few months allow space to build trust with your therapist, develop momentum, and gently begin exploring the patterns and experiences that have shaped your life. As therapy progresses and you begin to feel more grounded in the work, many clients naturally transition to every other week, using sessions as a supportive place to reflect, integrate insights, and continue growing.
Each person’s journey is unique, so the pace and rhythm of therapy will always be something you and your therapist decide together, based on your needs, goals, and where you are in the healing process. Some people engage in therapy for a focused period of time, while others appreciate having ongoing support and check-ins as they navigate life’s changes.
Many clients also return to therapy at different points in their lives when they feel ready for another layer of healing, clarity, or personal growth. We consider it an honor to walk alongside people during these different seasons.
At Heart In Balance, our door is always open, and you are welcome
to return whenever you feel the call for support.
How do I know if we’re a good fit?
Finding the right therapist is an important part of the healing process. A strong sense of safety, trust, and connection can make all the difference in the work we do together.
A great way to begin is by scheduling a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation with our practice. During this conversation, we’ll talk about what brings you to therapy, what you’re hoping to experience or change in your life, and any preferences you may have for your therapist.
Because Heart In Balance is a collaborative group practice, we can often help match you with a clinician whose training, personality, and approach align well with your needs and goals.
Our goal is to make sure you feel heard, supported, and connected to the right therapist from the very beginning.
If it feels like we may be a good fit, we’d be honored to support you on your journey.
To schedule your consultation, please reach out to our practice and we’ll help guide you through the next steps.
Will I have homework?
The time that we spend together in sessions is important to your healing process but integrating that healing into your daily life often requires outside work.
We encourage you to integrate healing practices from our therapy sessions and other somatic/mindfulness tools into the rest of your life. I’ll partner with you to find exercises and homework assignments that you can realistically implement.
